The Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team took No. 16 Casper College to the brink in a narrow loss Wednesday night in Torrington.
The Lancers (14-11 overall, 7-4 in Region IX-North) lost 64-58 in a game that was much closer than their Jan. 22 match up with the T-Birds, a 75-58 loss.
Eastern's defense led the way Wednesday, holding the Thunderbirds 10 points below their 74.4 season average. Casper was on pace to score just 54 points through three quarters before netting 24 in the final frame.
Freshman Raleigh Basart hit a deep 3-pointer as the third-quarter buzzer sounded to even the score at 40-40 and make it a 10-minute game.
The Lancers finished the second quarter just as strong. A shot clock violation turned into a successful drive and lay-in from freshman Ane Esnal Aguirre and the Lancers led after 22-21 after a low-scoring first half.
