EWC Women’s Basketball Prevails in Double-Overtime Thriller to Advance in Region 9 Tournament

POWELL, Wyo. – In a battle of grit, endurance, and defensive intensity, the Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) women's basketball team outlasted Northwest College 63-56 in a double-overtime thriller to punch their ticket to the next round of the Region 9 Tournament on March 8.

The Lady Lancers overcame a tough shooting night with relentless defense and dominant rebounding, holding Northwest to under 30% from the field. When it mattered most, EWC delivered in crunch time, knocking down clutch buckets and controlling the glass to grind out the victory.

"All credit to Northwest College," said EWC Head Coach Tim Larsen. "Their zone defense is tough, and we struggled to score, but our players found a way to make plays when it counted. Defensively, I thought we did a great job. To hold a team under 30% shooting in a postseason game says a lot about our effort and toughness."

The Lady Lancers' dominance on the boards proved to be the difference-maker, with five players grabbing double-digit rebounds. Four players recorded double-doubles in a balanced team effort, led by Leamsi Acuna, who stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists.

With the win, EWC moves on to face powerhouse Western Nebraska in the tournament's next round. The Lady Lancers will take the court in Scottsbluff, NE, on Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m. with a spot in the Region 9 semifinals on the line.
