TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Both the men's and women's golf teams at Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) capped off a successful fall season with team victories across the Region IX schedule, following strong performances in Lamar, Colorado, this past weekend.
Despite facing some of the most challenging wind conditions the tournament has seen in years, both teams managed impressive scores heading into Day 2 of play.
"It was one of the windiest days we've ever had in Lamar," said Head Coach Zach Smith. "I was happy with how both teams handled it, especially the guys, who kept it to 11 over par."
The men opened Day 2 with strong momentum and looked poised for a breakthrough round, but a few late stumbles led them to post another +11 finish.
On the individual side, Jamie Lambert closed out the tournament with a clutch birdie, earning his second individual college win this fall. On the women's side, Sara Maciej turned in a solid performance on Friday to secure another Region IX individual title, continuing her standout season.
With both squads finishing the fall slate undefeated in team competition, Smith emphasized the importance of maintaining focus heading into the offseason.
"We need to keep working hard and carry this momentum into the spring," he said.
The EWC men's team now turns its attention to a major national test, heading to Newton, Kansas, next week for the NJCAA National Championship Preview Tournament. The competition will offer a first look at the course that will host the NJCAA National Championship in May and an opportunity to go head-to-head with some of the best teams in the country.
