TORRINGTON, Wyo. - The Eastern Wyoming College men's golf team secured a third-place finish at the NJCAA Men's West District Tournament, earning a berth in the national championship with a strong two-day performance.
"The guys battled their best both days to finish in third at districts," said EWC golf coach Zach Smith. "Everyone did their best to help us make the top three teams, which helped send us to the national championship."
EWC posted a team score of +36, finishing behind runner-up Central Wyoming College (+32) and tournament champion Eastern Arizona College (+22).
Individually, Lancer Jace Nielsen led the way with an impressive runner-up finish, carding a +2 over the tournament. "Jace played great all three rounds to finish second," Smith said.
Teammate Freddie Dancox also turned in a strong showing, finishing fifth overall at +4. "Freddie played very well too," Smith added.
Jamie Lambert placed in a tie for 14th at +15, while Ben Brown finished tied for 18th at +20. Josh White rounded out the Lancers' lineup with a 24th-place finish at +27.
The tournament was held April 23 at The Olde Course at Loveland in Loveland, Colorado.
With the top-three finish, EWC advances to the national championship, set for Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Kansas. Smith said the team is eager for the opportunity ahead.
"We are looking forward to the challenge that Sand Creek Station will show the championship field," he said.
